On October 16, Autowise.ai was awarded a testing license for its autonomous sanitation vehicles by Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. This marks another significant milestone for the company after its product, Autowise Platforma-X, received the first-ever license in China allowing autonomous sanitation equipment to operate on public roads.
A Step Forward for Autonomous Vehicles in Hangzhou: Full Performance Approval
Hangzhou, a city with a solid foundation in the intelligent vehicle industry, began constructing its intelligent vehicle demonstration zone in 2015 and launched road testing for connected vehicles in 2018. In 2024, the city implemented the Hangzhou Autonomous Vehicle Testing and Application Promotion Regulation (hereafter referred to as “the Regulation”), expanding the testing areas from four districts to all eight city districts and Tonglu district, covering a total of 3,474 square kilometers. This expansion offers various scenarios for intelligent vehicles to be tested and applied in the city.
In compliance with the Regulation, Autowise V3 underwent a comprehensive assessment, including evaluations of its autonomous driving performance, information security, operational plans, monitoring platform integration, and expert reviews. In terms of driving performance, the V3 excelled, completing 41 scenarios across 10 categories, covering recognition and interaction with common traffic infrastructure, signals, obstacles, and participants. It achieved a 100% pass rate across all tests.
On the information security side, Autowise V3 successfully passed tests for vehicle-to-cloud communication, cloud system security, autonomous driving safety, and component safety, receiving high praise for its robust security measures.
Global Commercial Rollout: Autowise V3 Emerges as a Leading “China-Made” Autonomous Vehicle
Launched in September 2022, the Autowise V3 is a fully self-developed, integrated hardware and software solution. Equipped with LiDar, millimeter-wave radar, machine vision, and high-precision positioning technologies, it efficiently performs a range of tasks including autonomous start-stop, precision edge cleaning, comprehensive sweeping, obstacle avoidance, and garbage disposal. Its versatility makes it suitable for various environments, from public urban roads to parks, squares, and industrial areas.
Autowise V3 has rapidly expanded its global footprint, now operating commercially in over 30 cities, making it the most widely deployed autonomous vehicle in the sanitation sector. Traditional sanitation vehicles in many regions are being gradually replaced by the V3, helping Autowise.ai expand both flagship projects and retail operations in China.
In Shanghai, Autowise V3 is already performing routine operations in large parks in Jiading, on public roads in Pudong’s Jinqiao area, and in the Songjiang Free Trade Zone, the latter being the first large-scale, fully autonomous cleaning operation in a free trade zone in China. Meanwhile, in Shenzhen, the V3 has successfully operated across six districts, establishing a replicable and scalable model for autonomous sanitation vehicles.
Autowise V3’s international expansion has taken it to countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and the US, where it has become the first mass-deployed Chinese-made autonomous vehicle. The vehicle’s full-process autonomous cleaning and remote operational capabilities have been well-received in places like Preston, UK, and Massachusetts, USA. In regions like the Middle East, where extreme heat makes outdoor work difficult, the V3 has become essential for municipal management, helping to tackle persistent operational challenges. With favorable policies like Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Dubai’s Autonomous Transportation Strategy, Autowise V3’s deployment in the Middle East is expected to accelerate further.
The issuance of this license is yet another recognition of Autowise.ai’s leadership in autonomous driving technology, commercialization, and operational capabilities. It also highlights the role advanced technology plays in driving industry development. Autowise.ai remains committed to maintaining strong collaborations with government entities and deepening its involvement in the autonomous driving sector. As the company continues to push the boundaries of intelligent vehicle technology and application, it will explore new paths for industry growth and promote a fully digital and intelligent future.
With a focus on high-quality, sustainable development across the entire ecosystem, Autowise.ai is leading the charge toward a smarter, fully autonomous era.
